Digital Dialogue IRL: Conversations About Online Safety – Launch Event

22 Sep 2026

Meta and EYEYAH! launched Digital Dialogue IRL (DDIRL) at Temasek Shophouse @ Banyan Cove, bringing young people, parents, educators and community partners together to explore healthier and safer ways of navigating social media.

Digital Dialogue IRL is an interactive experience designed to encourage conversations between youth and the adults in their lives about their experiences online. Through five specially commissioned illustrations, the experience explores five aspects of social media: Social Spaces, exploring spaces where young people interact with online; Feed Control, examining how people can shape what appears in their feeds; Beyond Likes, encouraging reflection on social comparison and self-worth; Kindness Online, looking at positive interactions and responses to unkind behaviour; and Knowing Your Limits, prompting conversations about screen habits and balance. Alongside relevant Instagram Teen Accounts safety and wellbeing settings.

Rather than simply telling young people what they should or should not do online, DDIRL uses visual prompts and discussion to encourage them to reflect on their own behaviours, consider different perspectives and discover practical tools that can help them take greater control of their social media experience.

Bringing the digital conversation into real life

More than 100 guests attended the launch event, held from 10am to 12pm at Temasek Shophouse @ Banyan Cove. Attendees included media, content creators, government and community partners, educators and students, with representatives from organisations including the National Arts Council (NAC), DesignSingapore Council (DSG), Ministry of Education (MOE), Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and Ministry of Digital Development and Information (MDDI).

A panel discussion explored how schools, families and communities can empower young people through open and interactive conversations about their digital lives.

The panel featured Ms Rahayu Mahzam, Minister of State for Digital Development and Information, alongside Premiatha d/o Selvaraj, Vice Principal of a secondary school; Nurul Aini, actress and television presenter; and Lee Kai Yang, Captain of Singapore’s National Water Polo team.

Drawing on perspectives from education, parenting, media and sport, the discussion examined the importance of creating spaces where young people can talk openly about what they encounter online and develop the confidence to make thoughtful choices for themselves.

Five topics, five interactive experiences

The launch transformed the five DDIRL illustrations into physical activity booths, allowing guests to experience the programme first-hand.

Each booth focused on one of the five themes: Social Spaces, Feed Control, Beyond Likes, Kindness Online and Knowing Your Limits.

Booth activities introduced guests to relevant Instagram Teen Accounts safety and wellbeing settings, connecting each conversation with practical tools young people can use on the platform.

To make the experience playful and memorable, guests collected an illustrated Conversation Card and a phone keychain after completing each activity booth.

Extending the experience beyond launch day

Together with the launch, Digital Dialogue IRL experience remained open to the public at Sandbox, Temasek Shophouse’s interactive space, from 25 June to 31 July 2026.

The installation attracted particularly strong traffic from children and families during weekends, extending the conversations started at the launch to a wider public audience.

Across the exhibition period, the Digital Dialogue IRL interactive recorded over 4,000 plays.

The project reflects Meta and EYEYAH!’s shared approach of making online safety education more engaging and relevant to young people by combining visual storytelling, conversation and practical digital tools.

By bringing discussions about social media out of the screen and into a physical space, Digital Dialogue IRL creates opportunities for young people and adults to explore online experiences together, turning digital safety from a set of instructions into a conversation.
